Project Center Kerala builds working science models for school students in Classes 8 to 12. You choose a project from the list below, and you receive the components, the assembled and tested model, the circuit diagram, a written report, and coaching on how to explain it to the judges. Everything is designed for three uses: the school science exhibition, an INSPIRE Award MANAK entry, and the Class 11 or Class 12 investigatory project file.

Why a School Science Project Is Worth Doing Properly

The INSPIRE Awards MANAK scheme, run by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, with the National Innovation Foundation, is the largest school-level science competition in the country. According to DST's official scheme page, INSPIRE MANAK targets 10 lakh ideas every year from more than 5 lakh middle and high schools. Students aged 10 to 15 in Classes 6 to 10 are eligible, each school may nominate 5 students per financial year, 1 lakh shortlisted students each receive Rs. 10,000, and the top 60 projects are named national winners.

In other words, a school project is not just a mark in a register. A model that genuinely works, and that the student can explain, is the difference between a shortlisted entry and a display board.

What Makes a Working Model Win at a Science Exhibition

  • It has to move, light up or make a sound. Judges test the model in front of you. A static chart loses to a device that reacts.
  • It should solve a problem the judge recognises. Water wastage, road accidents, power theft, waste segregation and crop damage all score well.
  • The student must be able to explain the principle. One sensor understood deeply beats five sensors memorised.
  • It should survive the day. Loose jumper wires are the single most common reason a model fails at the table, which is why we solder and test every build before handover.

Class 12 Physics Investigatory Projects

A Class 12 investigatory project is marked differently from an exhibition model. The examiner wants a question that was investigated, not just a device that works. Each of the projects above is supplied with the working setup, a table of readings taken from it, the graph those readings produce, and a report written in the structure CBSE expects: aim, apparatus, theory, procedure, observations, calculations, result, precautions and bibliography. Students in Classes 11 and 12 also get help preparing for the viva questions the external examiner is most likely to ask.

What is the difference between a school project and a college final year project?

A school project is judged on the clarity of the idea and whether the model visibly works, so it is usually a single-sensor build with a chart and a short report. A college final year project is judged on technical depth and originality, so it needs a literature survey, a block diagram, circuit design, source code, testing results and a full documented report in the university format, often referenced to IEEE papers.

Do school students need to know coding to build these projects?

No. Many working models — such as an LDR street light, a water level alarm or a magnetic levitation energy harvester — are pure circuit builds with no code at all. For the Arduino-based models, we supply the tested program and teach the student what each line does, so the student can answer the judge's questions confidently without writing code from scratch.

Can Class 11 and Class 12 students get physics investigatory projects?

Yes. Class 12 physics investigatory projects need a testable principle rather than just a gadget. How long does a school working model take to build?

Most Class 8 to 10 exhibition models take about 3 to 7 days from confirmation, including assembly and testing. Class 11 and 12 investigatory projects take longer, roughly 1 to 2 weeks, because readings have to be recorded and the report written up.
