Smart Waste Sorting & Fill-Level Monitor
Municipal solid waste management suffers from inefficient collection routing and improper segregation at source. This intelligent refuse infrastructure addresses both pain points through a dual-function IoT node installed on standard bins. An ultrasonic rangefinder measures headspace remaining, transmitting fill percentage to a sanitation operations center that dynamically optimizes truck dispatch schedules. Concurrently, a computer vision module mounted on the bin lid captures an image of deposited items and runs a convolutional neural network inference to classify waste as organic, recyclable, or hazardous, illuminating color-coded indicator LEDs to guide the disposer. The consolidated data stream enables predictive analytics on neighborhood-level waste generation patterns and compliance rates.
