Welcome to Kerala Project Center.
Manual seed sowing remains a labor-intensive bottleneck in smallholder agriculture, with non-uniform spacing directly reducing crop yields. This project develops a solar-powered automatic seed planter that mechanizes the entire sowing operation. A photovoltaic panel charges a deep-cycle battery that powers a DC motor coupled to a rotating seed metering disc; as the disc turns, individual seeds are captured from the hopper and deposited at programmable intervals into furrows opened by a ground-engaging tine. Following wheels and a covering blade ensure consistent soil coverage and compaction over the deposited seed. The machine achieves uniform plant population density across varying soil conditions, eliminating the skips and double-planting common with manual methods. Adjustable row spacing and seeding depth accommodate different crop types from cereals to pulses.
