Mini Wind Turbine Power Generation System project

This project involves complete design, fabrication, and testing of a mini wind turbine. Blades follow aerodynamic principles using NACA airfoil profiles optimized for low Reynolds numbers. The rotor couples to a permanent magnet DC generator. A tail vane provides passive yaw control. Generated DC passes through charge controller to battery storage. Integrates fluid mechanics, machine design, and electrical systems knowledge.

Turbine Type


Horizontal Axis (HAWT) with 3-blade propeller or Vertical Axis Savonius (simpler, captures wind from any direction).


Power Output


With 1m rotor at 6 m/s wind, 15-25 Watts – sufficient for charging 12V battery and powering LED lighting.


Blade Design Considerations


NACA airfoil profiles, angle of attack optimization, twist distribution, chord length calculation, material selection.
