Vehicle Accident Detection and Alert System Using GSM GPS

Road traffic collisions in remote or low-traffic corridors often experience delayed emergency notification when victims are incapacitated. This vehicular safety system employs a tri-axial accelerometer and gyroscope to detect high-g impact signatures characteristic of collisions. Upon triggering, the onboard microcontroller triangulates position via GPS, captures vehicle orientation, and initiates an automated voice call plus data packet transmission to emergency services through an integrated GSM modem. A manual override button allows occupants to cancel false triggers, while a backup capacitive power supply ensures communication integrity even if the vehicle battery is compromised. The system drastically reduces the golden-hour response gap for trauma cases.

Arduino is an open source electronic prototyping platform.Arduino board designs use a variety of microprocessors and controllers. The boards are equipped with sets of digital and analog input/output (I/O) pins that may be interfaced to various expansion boards ('shields') or breadboards (for prototyping) and other circuits. The boards feature serial communications interfaces, including Universal Serial Bus (USB) on some models, which are also used for loading programs. The microcontrollers can be programmed using the C and C++ programming languages, using a standard API which is also known as the Arduino language, inspired by the Processing language and used with a modified version of the Processing IDE.

GSM SIM800L Module

The SIM800L is a compact GSM/GPRS module that enables cellular communication for embedded projects. It supports quad-band GSM frequencies (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), making it usable worldwide. The module can send SMS messages, make voice calls, and connect to the internet via GPRS. In this accident detection system, it serves as the critical communication link between the vehicle and emergency contacts, sending SMS alerts with GPS coordinates when a collision is detected.
