Self-Built Respiratory Oxygen Enrichment Device project

Oxygen concentrators provide a critical alternative to cylinder oxygen in situations where compressed gas logistics are impractical. This DIY construction project realizes a pressure-swing adsorption system using zeolite molecular sieve beds housed in PVC columns. An air compressor delivers pressurized ambient air to one bed, where nitrogen is selectively adsorbed, allowing oxygen-enriched gas to exit through a product valve. A microcontroller orchestrates solenoid valve sequencing to alternate between beds, ensuring continuous product flow while the saturated bed undergoes depressurization and purge. Oxygen concentration is verified through a zirconia sensor, with feedback control adjusting cycle timing to maintain therapeutic-grade output (90%+) across varying altitudes and inlet humidity conditions.
