Urban parking search traffic contributes significantly to congestion and emissions. This smart parking deployment embeds magnetoresistive or ultrasonic occupancy sensors beneath each bay surface in a multi-level facility. Each sensor node reports its binary occupancy state to a local concentrator, which maintains a real-time database of vacant stalls. Motorists access this inventory through a mobile application or dynamic roadway signage that directs them to the nearest available space by level and zone. Integration with automated payment gates enables frictionless exit processing. The backend analytics engine identifies peak utilization patterns, seasonal demand fluctuations, and revenue optimization opportunities for parking asset operators.

Arduino is an open source electronic prototyping platform.Arduino board designs use a variety of microprocessors and controllers. The boards are equipped with sets of digital and analog input/output (I/O) pins that may be interfaced to various expansion boards ('shields') or breadboards (for prototyping) and other circuits. The boards feature serial communications interfaces, including Universal Serial Bus (USB) on some models, which are also used for loading programs. The microcontrollers can be programmed using the C and C++ programming languages, using a standard API which is also known as the Arduino language, inspired by the Processing language and used with a modified version of the Processing IDE.
The ESP8266 is a low-cost WiFi microchip with a full TCP/IP stack and microcontroller capability. It is one of the most popular modules for IoT projects, allowing any microcontroller to connect to a WiFi network and communicate over the internet. In this smart parking system, the ESP8266 connects the Arduino to the cloud server via WiFi and transmits parking slot occupancy data using the MQTT protocol. This enables real-time updates on the web dashboard accessible from any browser.
