Modern libraries need efficient digital management. This project implements a Library Management System using Python Django. The system provides complete lifecycle management: catalog new books with ISBN and barcode, manage member borrowing, automatic due date calculation, fine computation for late returns, and reports on circulation statistics.

Django Framework

Django is a high-level Python web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design. This project uses Django's MVT (Model-View-Template) architecture. Django ORM manages database operations for books, members, and transactions. Django Admin provides an instant administrative interface for library staff. Class-based views handle CRUD operations efficiently with built-in form validation.

Database and ORM

SQLite is used for development and PostgreSQL for production deployment. Django ORM simplifies complex queries for book search, member history, and overdue tracking. The database schema includes models for Books (ISBN, title, author, barcode, category), Members (registration, contact, membership type), and Transactions (issue date, due date, return date, fine amount).

Barcode Integration

Each book is assigned a unique barcode during cataloging. Barcode scanners speed up issue and return operations.
Key barcode features:

• Barcode generation during book cataloging and label printing.
• Quick issue/return by scanning book and member barcode.
• USB barcode scanner integration for fast transactions.
• Fallback manual entry for books without scanner access.
