Efficient hospital management is crucial for quality patient care. This project builds a Hospital Management System using Java and MySQL. The system handles patient registration, appointment scheduling with queue management, IPD bed allocation, pharmacy inventory management, laboratory test processing, and comprehensive billing. Reports provide management insights on hospital operations.

Java Swing GUI

Java Swing provides the graphical user interface for this desktop application. The system uses JFrame for main windows, JPanel for module screens, JTable for displaying records, and JDialog for popup forms. The interface is organized with a tabbed pane layout giving quick access to Patient Registration, OPD/IPD, Appointments, Doctor Management, Pharmacy, Lab Reports, and Billing modules from a single window.

MySQL Database with JDBC

MySQL stores all hospital data including patient records, doctor schedules, pharmacy inventory, lab results, and billing information. JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) connects the Swing application to MySQL. Prepared statements prevent SQL injection. Connection pooling optimizes database performance. The schema includes tables for patients, doctors, appointments, prescriptions, lab tests, bed allocation, pharmacy stock, and invoices.

Jasper Reports

Jasper Reports is used for generating all printable reports in the system.
Key report types:

• Patient invoices with itemized billing breakdowns.
• Daily OPD/IPD census reports for hospital administration.
• Pharmacy stock reports and low-inventory alerts.
• Monthly revenue reports and doctor-wise consultation statistics.
