Home Security System Using PIR Sensor and GSM

Home security system using PIR sensor and GSM

Home security is a fundamental need. This project creates a reliable and cost-effective home security system using PIR motion sensing technology coupled with GSM communication. The HC-SR501 PIR sensor monitors a defined area for human movement. Upon detection of an intruder, the Arduino activates a loud buzzer alarm and simultaneously sends an SMS alert via the SIM800L GSM module to the homeowner's mobile phone. The system can also be extended to include a siren and automated light activation.

Arduino is an open source electronic prototyping platform.Arduino board designs use a variety of microprocessors and controllers. The boards are equipped with sets of digital and analog input/output (I/O) pins that may be interfaced to various expansion boards ('shields') or breadboards (for prototyping) and other circuits. The boards feature serial communications interfaces, including Universal Serial Bus (USB) on some models, which are also used for loading programs. The microcontrollers can be programmed using the C and C++ programming languages, using a standard API which is also known as the Arduino language, inspired by the Processing language and used with a modified version of the Processing IDE.

The HC-SR501 is a passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor module widely used in security and automation projects. It detects infrared radiation emitted by warm bodies (humans and animals) moving within its detection range. The sensor has a detection range of 3-7 meters adjustable via potentiometer, and a cone angle of approximately 120 degrees. It outputs a high signal when motion is detected, which can be read by the Arduino's digital pins to trigger alarms or notifications.
