Laser Torch Based Communication System

This research explores the utilization of the visible electromagnetic spectrum as a medium for high-speed data exchange, circumventing the spectrum congestion inherent to radio-frequency channels. The transmitter segment encodes binary information into rapid on-off keying of a high-frequency LED emitter, while the receiver employs a photodiode coupled with a transimpedance amplifier to recover the modulated optical signal. A microcontroller on both ends handles framing, error detection, and serial communication interfacing. Experimental validation demonstrates successful file transfer and text messaging over line-of-sight distances, with theoretical throughput bounded by the switching characteristics of the optoelectronic components. The prototype holds relevance for secure indoor networking, electromagnetic-interference-sensitive environments, and underwater communication where RF propagation is severely attenuated.
